Words of Encouragement to all the who wish to fully participate in Lenten recollection and retreat. May we all fully open our hearts to the calling of the season. May we fully enter into the reflective 40 days of Lent. Let us put all our trust in the power of the Holy Spirit leading us to full understanding of the essence of Lent as a period of renewal, repentance, and preparation for Easter celebration.
The message of Ash Wednesday Liturgy is always faithful in reminding as about the humble beginning of human race. While we live in this world, and while taking good care of the palpitating thing called life, ours is not to the attachment to this world but a daily detachment to all things that do not contribute to our life in the Spirit. Thus, we are all encouraged to spent more time in prayer, we pray more and we pray unceasingly. The fruit of our prayer is authentic renewal of our Christian life promises, fidelity to the unending mercy and love of God, and works of Mercy, sharing, & concern for the poor, marginalized, lonely, and most especially for those who hunger and thirst of God`s Word. and needy in many ways.
We are reminded however that the works of mercy we intend to, are to be done in quiet. While we invite others to do the same, our ways are not for arrogance towards our sisters and brothers we think are less fortunate than us at least materially. The calling of this season is in fact a good chance for all of us to realize what we are and who we are in the eyes of God. This season is a also a good chance to learn more about authentic Christian living, so finally decide to live “poor” with the rest of God`s people.
If we think we are not in authentic Christian living, we are called to urgent reconciliation so that we can continue to receive the merit and joy of Easter．This reconciliation is the most wonderful relationship that can ever happen between people and God. In this manner, we also understand that the season of Lent is intended in preparation for Easter celebration. When we find our hearts fully engaged in prayer and works of mercy esp. during this Lenten season, we will be able sincerely participate to the rite of the renewal of our baptismal promises on Eater Vigil with the community.
Finally, we can agree to something to substantiate our Lenten reflection with at least one or two key words, which are, commitment and fidelity. Commitment has been made when we received the Sacrament of Baptism, and fidelity is next Temptation (and giving-in) to many things this world offer is always the impending (forthcoming) danger. However, we put our trust in God`s love, and trust in the meaningful Sacrifice of Jesus up to the Cross. The power of God is stronger than other temptation, especially when we are always willing to be reconciled, that even if one has seemingly gave-up, there is always hope.
Have a fruitful Lenten recollection and retreat.
