A Reminder to Remember

God showed His love for humanity

Serve the Lord joyfully,

be sent, and proclaim the Good News to All

Our last three or four consecutive Sunday ( liturgy )liturgies must have brought to a Holy Spirit-driven proclamation of the mystery of our faith. The previous Feasts and Solemnities, their respective liturgy of the Word (readings) as well, have well conveyed and presented to us several events about Jesus after the Resurrection. Moreover, we have seen how the apostles and the first disciples of Jesus have witnessed all (everything). Ours in modern times are shared faith from them (from the Apostles and disciples of Jesus), and the promised unending presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and in our midst. We have our faith-community experiences, and individual faith experiences too to share.

As we continue to actively participate in the Mass, we always keep in our hearts a reminder to always remember. Our first reading talks about a similar invitation to the people of Israel under the leadership of Moses. The Israelites themselves had witnessed the providence of God. Remembering the goodness of God geared towards obeying God`s commands and keeping the covenant to remain in Him. So they remain a holy nation and become a kingdom of priests (people who ultimately fulfill God`s desire).

Our gospel reading today talks about the importance of the proclamation of God`s Kingdom. So the Apostles were sent to share with others the message about God`s love and compassion, the message of salvation and reconciliation. Our obedience to God`s command to love one another keeps us as a holy nation, and makes us as people who fulfill God`s desires.

In a world where we often see both the joys and sorrows of people around, we as followers of Christ realize that indeed, we still have plenty of things to do. Let us pray for more courageous men and women be sent specifically in places where people hunger more in God`s Words than us, to places where people literally hunger and thirst, and to places where people hunger for justice and freedom May they (the so-called courageous men and women) all serve the Lord joyfully, may we all serve the Lord joyfully, be sent like the Apostles (whose convenience, security & protection rely on God`s providence) and fulfill what God desires.
