The mode of Lenten season, since we are commemorating Jesus` passion and death, is somehow more linked to the real life we have on earth. This second Sunday of Lent we are invited to reflect on the goal of our living. The faith of Christians is faith in Jesus and His (Jesus`) vision and way of life. Jesus taught about treasures in Heaven, and promoted new life in Him through repentance/change of heart so that we can share in the so-called citizenship in Heaven. Repentance which is primarily the theme of Lent aims to lead us to transformation and at the same time experience at least the glimpse of God`s glory while we are still in this world. While we are in this world, it is in this world and through this world that we are called to find God. We are continually encouraged and guided by the Word of God to live in deep faith and patience amidst imperfections and weaknesses in this world and of this world. Let us all stand firm in the Lord.
Quoting the theme of the Holy Year can further substantiate the theme of our reflection today. Since we are pilgrims of hope, we believe that we are not Christians for nothing. We put our hope and trust in Jesus and His Words. Let us imitate those who courageously follow Jesus with the understanding that they have learnt detachment (how to be detached) from earthly things, and are able to find deeper relationship with God.
May the time and efforts we give in living our lives on earth be worthy passes to liberation from weaknesses and sins of the world and its people. May the time and efforts we have in living bring us closer to God`s sweet promises and to a more permanent and peaceful dwelling place.
